It's been many months since I've posted an update to the front page of KernelTrap. Ironically, the last posting, dated September 30th 2008, includes in its title, "this one should be the last one". That was not planned irony, though it did lead to a few comments and emails from readers wondering what my plans where and why I was suddenly giving up on KernelTrap. In reality, life has simply been busy for me lately, and I've felt the need to take a brief break from keeping up with the lkml and other kernel mailing lists. I've been focused on scaling my small consulting company, Tag1 Consulting, and I recently purchased a 37' sailboat on which I'm taking a trip for a few months starting at the end of February. Long time readers of KernelTrap will remember similar lapses in updates in the past.
Being busy and otherwise distracted does not mean that I've stopped being interested in Kernel development. In fact, I'm already making plans to upgrade the website to a newer version of Drupal (unfortunately not a small effort, but a worthwhile one for administrative reasons), and in doing so to clean up some of the bugs remaining in our mail archives -- this latter effort is important as it is from these archives that I write articles. More exciting to me, a familiar author of Linux kernel articles has agreed to start writing regular columns soon, which should begin gracing the front page of KernelTrap in February or March. And finally, I've been actively asking around looking for other authors that may be interested in contributing regular articles to our pages to keep this community alive.
So, to respond directly to the title of this blog posting: KernelTrap is not dead, merely temporarily dormant. Behind the scenes I'm beginning to feel restless, which means it shouldn't be too much longer before I start writing regular articles again. I appreciate all of the supportive emails I've received in the past few months, and look forward to maintaining KernelTrap for a long time to come.
Good luck!
Thanks for the update - and good luck with the boat!

I would love to get a few! But I've been unable to find any that could both write sufficiently well and post with any regularity. It's a fairly demanding website with no financial renumeration. If interested, please send me an email at jeremy@kerneltrap.org.
