Directory hard-links

Al Viro's comment is about the long-standing ban in *nix systems on multiple hard-links to directories. A ban which, incidentally, Apple has lifted with its "Time Machine" feature in the latest OS X 10.5 "Leopard" release.

Will the lifting of this ban spell doom for OS X? There are reports of "Leopard" already being problematic in several areas...

I think it might be Apple

I think it might be Apple magic, ln(1) will not allow hard links to directories.

I don't have TimeMachine running so I haven't anaysed it as yet.

But isn't those managed under very strict rules? I think the problem is on general work with multiple hardlinks.
